About

I created this Pidgin plugin for use with the meebo me widget. When people visit the web page on which your widget is placed, a buddy will automatically be added to your Pidgin buddy list in a group titled Meebo Guests. When they leave the site, the buddy will automatically be removed from your list. This removes the headache of having to authorize and add the buddy every time someone visits your web site. Please contact me if you find any bugs or have any questions.

Updates

November 14, 2007 Thanks to Michael, there is now a 64 bit version available for Linux. He found that the plugin should be placed at /usr/lib64/pidgin/ so that might be a good place to try.
July 8, 2007 Version 2.0.2 of the plugin is now available for Linux thanks to Georg.
July 6, 2007 I found a bug in version 2.0.1 that causes Pidgin to crash if more than one meebo guest is signed on and they all sign out at the same time. It only happened to me a couple times but it was a simple enough fix. Only the Windows version has been updated at the moment.
July 2, 2007 Thanks to Matt version 2.0.1 of the plugin is now available for Linux.
July 1, 2007 Version 2.0.1 - In previous versions of the plugin it is possible to accumulate a number of offline meebo guests. This results from signing off Pidgin while a meebo guest is online since the plugin only removes the meebo guests when they sign off. I added a fix to take care of this issue.

The source code is current so if anyone wants to volunteer to compile it for Linux it would save me a lot of trouble.
June 26, 2007 Version 2.0 for Windows is complete. Linux coming soon.
This version implements the nickname feature so guests now show up on your list with the nickname that they use in the meebo widget. I also changed the name of the group to Meebo Guests and fixed an issue where the plugin was automatically adding all meebo users. So far it seems to be working fine with Pidgin version 2.0.2 but let me know if you experience any problems. For those of you who were using the modified libjabber.dll file I posted earlier, make sure you restore the original or reinstall Pidgin if you didn't make a backup.
June 12, 2007 Replacement libjabber.dll available for Windows that shows nicknames
June 6, 2007 The Linux version is now compatible with Pidgin 2.0.1
May 20, 2007 Version 1.1 finished

Download

The plugin file should be placed in the Pidgin plugins folder. On Windows this is usually located at C:\Program Files\Pidgin\plugins. On Linux this might be something like /usr/lib/purple-2. For the 64 bit version, one user found that it should be placed at /usr/lib64/pidgin. Of course this may be different depending on your installation. It can then be enabled from the Plugins option in the Tools menu.

Windows (2.0.2): download
Linux (2.0.2): download
Linux 64 bit (2.0.2): download

Source (2.0.2): download

Thanks to Eran, Matt, and Georg for compiling the Linux version of the plugin, and to Michael for the 64 bit version.
